The story of L@TL Designs.
We are Kelly and Jay Altstadt. We are a blended family with his, hers, and our kiddos. Life is not always easy but there is always love in our home.
Life At The Lake Designs originally began in the early months of 2021, while the world was home during lock down and distancing. We actually count this as a blessing.
One of our daughters had been struggling with anorexia, and we had no clue until we were all together day in and day out. We saw her body changing and her spunky personality going away. Once we went to the doctor and figured out what was going on, we were able to get her treatment. During treatment a whole different level of issues arose. I’ll spare the details, it was not good.
I began experimenting with resin and molds as a way to keep my mind focused on something else. While I was pouring, I had to focus 100% to keep it steady. Little did we know, this would be my outlet during the multiple hospital stays and treatment center visits. It was a healthy way to cope with something out of my control. Some time in late 2022, Jay told me that I had to find a cheaper outlet/hobby because I was making so much it was taking over the house and the budget. We then decided to make it in to a business so I could continue! Now three and a half years later and things are going wonderfully. My daughter is doing very well and is healthy.
We pray every day for anyone struggling or has struggled with those types of issues, and we know as parents it is so incredibly difficult to go through as you are extremely helpless at times.
What we believe in...
We feel extremely grateful to be able to make creative, handmade products but to do so in a way that allows our customers to feel like what they are getting is special to them, and not just a mass-produced item.
We believe that it is extremely important to make a connection with people and our products. We are amazed at how many people share some or all of our story and there is so much power in helping each other, beyond just selling our products.
We believe in charging a fair price given the time & energy to make our products.
Our products...
All of our products are hand made with resin. Some contain other parts & materials that we add or assemble. Kelly puts a lot of creativity into what she makes and has come up with some really brilliant pieces of art!
